signalboostThe theme for my mother's elementary school for 2013-2014 is superheroes. (Kids are their own superheroes, in charge of their lives. School staff can give them all the tools to prepare but it ultimately is up to them. Be the hero of your own story.) I'm helping her come up with a display (which might be school-wide and might be just for her classroom), and we'd like some help!
The mascot is a sun (i don't even know, it's elementary school, though really a sun is a pretty brutal mascot when you think about it!). The sun-mascot has five character traits: self-control, honesty, independence, neatness, and engagement. The superheroes we've invented to match these traits are Super Self-Stopper, Honest Hombre, I Can Kid, Neatnik, and Engager. (Based on the school's demographics, we would prefer one Hispanic hero (so, that'd be Honest Hombre), two African-American heroes (preferably to include the I Can Kid), one to two Caucasian heroes, and perhaps an Indian or Chinese hero. All heroes are children 5-10 years old, 2 should be clearly female, Honest Hombre and Neatnik should be male, and my personal preference is for one to be of ambiguous gender, though that's not at all a requirement.)
If you happen to come up with another idea for one of the character traits (while keeping the heroes' names spelling SHINE), that is very cool and quite welcome! If you would like to provide some art for a hero or five (or just have some concept ideas for someone else to draw), that would be awesome!
And my actual pipe-dream is to have a short comic for each hero or one for all of these heroes that explains what their trait is, how they embody it, what the name means (srsly, neatnik, not a word the kids know). No origin stories, possibly a small adventure (preferably one that involves all of the heroes). This is not a thing I have the skill to do, so instead I ask you wonderful people if you might like to contribute.
All of your ideas, art, and words used will of course be credited as you prefer, though otherwise all you get is just some invisible gratitude via internets.
