signalboostOne of my best friends and her partner got hit with a $1200+ electric bill, which was well over their usual under $200 bill. Everything in their house is electric -- heating, cooking, hot water.
She and her partner are both disabled and she isn't getting any sort of benefits for various reasons, so they're living off of her partner's disability. They live in a very rural area and are pretty much completely housebound since they have no family they can count on. There's no way they can really come up with the money to pay for this bill. They're fighting it, of course, but you know how power companies are -- you have to pay them and hope that they will reimburse you when the fuck-up is sorted out.
They've started a GoFundMe to try to raise the money they need.
