signalboostSo, one of my besties, hitokage, and her partner are 2 days away from possibly being on the street. Here's the story, in Dee's (my friend's partner's) words: (cut for length)
The house we've been living in with Amy & Wesley is owned by my aunt. Last Augustish? Amy and Wesley arranged with my aunt that they would clean out the house (it was full of Stuff) and then rent it.
Around first part of February, my aunt started insisting we move out. Original agreement was that we were supposed to pay half the rent, which turned into half the rent plus half the utilities plus most of the food brought into the house, plus all-hours child care for the two babies. So we had already been making plans to move out, despite not being able to save anything because we have to be able to eat and such, and limited, fixed income. But this made things worse and we stepped up the apartment hunting. And we even found a place: basement studio apartment, reasonable rent with all utilities included. Spent most of February e-mailing back and forth with the landlady, she said she was throwing out the current tenants and was hoping to have it open for us on March 1st, but it might take longer if there needed to be an eviction filed with the police. March 1st and tenants refuse to leave, so she files eviction and says it’ll probably take ‘til the 10th, but then the tenants decide they want to go for a hearing, which puts it off yet again.
Meanwhile, my aunt insists that we have to be out by midnight of the 17th or she’s calling the cops. Amy claims to have talked her out of that for the sake of not wanting to upset the littles, but at that point, we're stuck heading to a hotel. Which is where we are now, waiting and wondering. it's a nice hotel, decent size studio style, bed, bath, even kitchenette with two stovetop eyes, microwave, and full fridge for reasonable nightly rate. Only problem is, again the fixed income thing. Meaning come Thursday, barring a miracle happening.... I honestly don't know."
The apartment still isn't ready, and our room is only paid through Thursday. Unless we can come up with $400 by then to extend our stay....
