Alex Needs To Finish College, Powered By GoFundMe

I need an estimated $2100 by the beginning of April in order to get my diploma in the mail. I want to walk at graduation mid-June; that will take an additional estimated $2000. I plan to apply after graduation for another program of study; it has no tuition, but required texts and strongly recommended references will total an estimated $400 and additional recommended texts an estimated $2000.

If you are willing and able to help me finish college, please donate and/or signal-boost.

Thank you!

**EDIT: Sadly we lost Hermen during prepping for surgery. I am now trying to raise funds to pay off his final bill.

I was already a bit down on my financial luck this month after a car repair pretty much drained out my savings, but now I really need some help.

My cat, Hermen, is going in for surgery tomorrow to remove a bladder stone that we have been trying to treat with a food based stone dissolution diet for the past 8 months. Unfortunately, that plan didn't work and he has to have the surgery. An expensive surgery that my household can't afford. So, I am asking for help. The good news is that there are several ways that you can help!

1. You can check out Hermen's fundraiser on YouCaring. Donations are greatly appreciated. I don't want him to suffer with this.

2. If you want to make a donation to Hermen's bills directly, I have a post with my vet's phone number. They are happily taking credit card payments over the phone to help Hermen. They vet techs really like him. :)

3. I am selling a bunch of random things. I also have a book/CD/DVD donation drive in the same post where you can name your donation amount, though you will have to pay shipping. Please have a look and see if you would be interested.

4. This one is absolutely free - please, please, please signal boost the heck out of any of the above. Our cat really needs the care and while the vet does payment plans, they only do them for 90 days out. Unfortunately with the enormity of the surgery bill, we won't be able to pay in full by the end of 90 days. I don't want to compromise our good standing with our vet since I want Hermen to continue to receive good care.

Any monies raised above and beyond Hermen's needs will be put into a vet fund to help another family in dire financial need with their vet bills.

Thank you so much!!

Art & Design Commissions

by members of Plures House ♦ as of 5th January 2015

We are currently taking design and art commissions, primarily to cover daily-living expenses and the occasional self-care thing. We had an excessive amount of unpaid leave and half-days at Christmastime (the last and forthcoming paycheque are very small) and we've been bombarded with several bills at once. Things will probably stabilise near the end of the month, but right now it's very stressful.

So... we'd like to use our skills to help you by creating ebook covers, promotional banners for small businesses and crowdfunded services, personal or professional websites - and icons, banners and other designs to make your personal blog or journal a bit prettier~

Samples of our work can be found here! We've done a variety of work including blog/social networking banners, journal/forum icons, ebook covers, blog layouts and websites. Most designs are by me (Kerry) or Yavari, though Noël, James and Lilly have also done some design work as well.

Our commissions post is here on our journal. There is also a special January offer, with all flat-rate items being 50% off.

Indiegogo | Ferguson Defense Fund

Ferguson protestors need money for jail, bail & life. The Ferguson Legal Defense Fund will help. There are protestors in Ferguson who will stay there protesting until an indictment is handed down. And indictment is hardly justice, but it is the fairest procedure. These are young men and women who have put their lives on hold to stand up for all of our freedoms. The overly militarized police force in Ferguson has attempted to criminalize them by harassing and throwing them in jail for exercising their right to peaceful protest. They need our help. They need money for legal funds and they need money to live. The Ferguson Legal Defense Fund will help. We have partnered with Tef Poe and Tory Russell from Ferguson October to make sure the funds received go exactly where they are needed.

There's an indiegogo up for a project by patients for patients called Flaredown, tracking symptoms + treatments and relationships between the two; also s'posed to spit out a summary that is easy to show medical professionals, as well as (as an opt-in) aggregating data for medical researchers.

I think this is pretty cool. I've got in touch with them with a few questions and they've been answered to my satisfaction (to first approximation - in that the answers demonstrate that the creators are thinking about all of this).

Donating $15 gets you early access to the beta (the app will be free); they're also looking for patient advocates for some conditions to help with designing the tracking questionnaire. I'm fascinated to see how this turns out!

Art & Design Commissions

by members of Plures House ♦ as of 27th August 2014

We are currently taking design and art commissions, primarily to cover daily-living expenses and the occasional self-care thing. We're recent graduates, though slightly older than the typical recent graduate, without the same sort of safety net that other people may have (because of a bigoted, hostile biological family). We recently had a crisis that cost us the ability to have stable housing for a while, and we're trying to earn some money to allow us to cover more of our daily expenses.

So... we'd like to use our skills to help you by creating ebook covers, promotional banners for small businesses and crowdfunded services, personal or professional websites - and icons, banners and other designs to make your personal blog or journal a bit prettier~

Samples of our work can be found here! We've done a variety of work including blog/social networking banners, journal/forum icons, ebook covers, blog layouts and websites. Most designs are by me (Kerry), though Noël, Yavari, James and Darwin have also done some design work as well.

Our commissions post is here on our journal.

Gods willing I will get my top surgery funded by the NHS. That's really, really not an option for the vast majority of people. This dude needs a hand - please do consider chipping in if you can.

I have two friends doing astonishing things, currently, seeking crowdfunding/support.

1. Mia has set up a Patreon account: she brings joy and beauty and light into the world with her art, claws it out of a mire of pain and horror and exhaustion, and sets it gentle between her hands. Patreon is a means to crowd-support artists; Mia says:
I'm a queer Filipina artist who recently immigrated to Australia for True Love. My heart lives halfway between the Philippines -- the land of my birth and the beat of my blood, pugad ng luha ko't dalita -- and Australia, a place whose song I am only just learning, where I am just beginning to put down roots.

2. CN Lester, of a gentleman and a scholar, the Transpose series of fundraisers showcasing trans artists and performers, raising money for charities supporting LGBT+ populations, is crowdfunding their latest album, Aether. I've heard it performed live twice now and I cannot wait to get my hands on a recording of my own - CN is honest and heartbreaking about mood disorders and grief, and sings to you-the-audience about how beautiful you are, how beautiful you look from their perspective, and -- yes. Yes. It is a thing of joy and of wonder, also.

This has potential to be a really exciting academic project, with trans people at the helm. I am keeping my eye on it!

This one seems worth spreading around:

Fair Phone, the socially conscious smartphone.

Europe only so far, but a cool idea. A fully featured Android smartphone built by workers who are treated fairly and with "conflict-free minerals."

But they need 5000 preorders to get the whole thing off the ground.

Project: May 7, 2013 Poetry Fishbowl -- today's theme is "homonyms, puns, and wordplay."
Benefitting: My household -- this is my dayjob.
Cost: Free to prompt and read. This project is crowdfunded, so people may sponsor a specific poem or donate to the general fund if they wish.
Perks: Boosting the signal reveals a verse of the linkback perk poem, "The Voyage to Vaucouleurs," if you comment with the URL of your link. If there is at least one new prompter or donor, you get a second freebie poem. Sponsors of specific poems get non-exclusive reprint rights to the poem they fund. There are also collective perks for donation thresholds.

Description: A fishbowl is a creative activity where people collaborate and observe the results. Give me an idea and I'll write a poem based on it. I post one poem free in return for the prompts. I also post thumbnail descriptions of other poems so potential donors can decide what they want to sponsor.  You can post prompts, or just hang out on my blog and enjoy the discussion and free poetry.  Visit today's fishbowl or the project landing page for more details.
